Turkey Day

The turkey responds to my wild turkey calls. As if threatened by my beauty, if not my silly gaggling, he thrusts out his feathers and prances around while making a throaty vibration in his chest. Okay Okay, I'll back down. Those turkey ladies are all yours!

Terra

Nico Martin, Zoe & I fulfill a site visit to Terra for a client.
This is Zoe and I in action as "The Working Mom".
It feels a little weird showing up to meetings wearing a dress, heels and pulling a baggie of cheerios and a soggy Teddy bear out of my black leather purse.
Zoe plays along like a trooper, smiling and waving and ultimately charming clients. Well at least mommy is charmed, and can't see how others wouldn't be. This is a reality for me- I work and take care of my baby, often at the same time. It may look unconventional, but if I can juggle all this, you bet I can produce your cocktail party!

Found!

As I was preparing another all-word posting, Nico was sweeping under the couch.
Two miracles happened. The first one I already described, the second one was when Nico reached behind the couch, and said "hmmmf, you're going to like this". He reappeared holding my lost Canon!
I grabed it from him, clutched it to my chest and got weepy eyed. Seriously.
After loosing the camera, I deducted that I must have lost it when packing up the car in the woods. I went back, met with the ranger to fill out a missing item paper. I taped "lost" papers around the parking lot, i asked fellow park visitors if they'd seen it, I posted on Craigslit, i'd visited Ebay for a replacement. Nico said wait. Let's be sure it's gone.
A part of me was gone, and it's absence left me disabled. I was forlorn.

Oh happy day! My Canon and I have been joyously reunited and now we may continue our visual journey!

Closed due to technical absence

Last week, Zoe and I went to the redwood forest up the hill for a twilight walk. It was so calm and pretty there, it reminded me of my senior year at UCSC spent walking the paths of the forest in the evening with the huge 4x5. while packing up the car with baby, diaper bag, stroller, pacifiers, cheerios, sippy cup, etc. I must have lost the camera. I never even had the chance to look over the shots of her parked on the trail in a patch of peachy evening light reflecting through the ferns.
I've taped "Lost!" announcements in the park next to the tick warnings at the trailheads and on the window of the payment kiosk. I posted under the Lost & Found heading on Craigslist. I filled out paperwork with the ranger. I searched every bag and the trunk of the car. No luck.
Until I can replace the camera, I've decided to take "mental pictures" and while they hold more detail than the digital version, they are more difficult and time consuming to upload on to Blogspot. Bear with me for a bit.

Lost

This is the last image I took before "loosing" the canon for 10 days.
I saw it in my mind as I moped over the loss of the camera.
Now I can post it, and you can see it too.

Learning to Walk

"Zoe," says Uncle Mark, "you have to walk before you can run".
Last week Zoe didn't like the Chiccomobile. She was afraid when Daddy put her on and tried to take her for a ride.
She didn't want to hold the bar, she didn't trust it to hold her up. But now, she can hold herself up- and she knows it.
All this time we've known there was a little Mario Andretti waiting to get her own legs underneath her. Now she's almost there, and we'll really be in trouble.
It's seems like this new freedom is coming at an exciting time of year. When everything starts to wake up, and grow exponentially. The temp was 82 degrees today as we rolled down the 880 to go to the plant store. Everyone celebrates great weather in their own way. My preference is almost always to be at the beach, but it isn't always convenient anymore, so I plant flowers instead. During the summer, Stern Grove is a favorite way to spend a beautiful Sunday, or a street fair, or El Rio. But it's too early in the year for those things yet. We were invited to go dancing the afternoon away at Jelly's. How carefree to be sipping mojitos on the patio, the bay breeze tickling my ankles. Live salsa horns serenading me from inside. I can almost hear palm trees rustling overhead.
Frivolous. Lighthearded summer days.
Summer days in March. Ted was sweating as I drove him to Bart, the first leg of his trip back to Ottawa where it is ONLY minus 14 or so. Celsius. "Yeah, 40 below is really awful because you have to bundle up in full gear just to plug the car in". 40 below is when he wears ski goggles for the walk to work downtown in the morning because the wind is just too much to bear on his only exposed flesh- his eyeballs. We agree that 14 below is almost lovely at that point. We also agree not to mention to Marcia that it's 82 degrees fahrenheit on Oakland today. Then I opened the sunroof.

The Last Cut

I cut the last pieces of glass & lead today. All the snips, cuts, scoring and grinding are done. All that stands between the doves and the light is some solder, some puddy and some windex.

Discovery Park

Discovery Park, Signal Hill. Dane discovered this fun park and brought us here. I asked for basket swings, and uncle Dane delivered. We had a fun afternoon before flying back home to Oakland.
